Sapio Research conducted a survey of more than 400 IT leaders from organisations with more than 1000 employees in the United States, providing a picture for enterprises transitioning to the cloud and multi-cloud, allowing them to understand the challenges and make informed decisions about cloud networking and security. While multi-cloud transit can significantly improve network latency, the results demonstrate that it also brings substantial complexity and security risks.
Multi-cloud transit has significant security and complexity challenges
Multi-cloud transit and the decentralization of users, applications, and data around the globe are causing enterprises to be more concerned than ever about the rising threat surface. Several enterprise security teams have turned to VPNs or inserting security vendor SaaS services to enforce user and application security policies to address this challenge.
When compared to a solution that eliminates mid-mile SaaS infrastructure and brings security closer to end users, inserting mid-mile SaaS infrastructure can significantly impair performance, adding 28x the latency.
