Microsoft Edge browser users have been issued a high severity warning by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which is part of the Ministry of Information Technology (MeitY). The warning is relevant to users who are using a browser version previous to 99.0.1150.30. Multiple vulnerabilities have been found in the Edge browser, according to the alert, which can be exploited by an attacker to compromise a targeted system.
The advisory further reveals that “these vulnerabilities exist in Microsoft Edge due to Heap buffer overflow in ANGLE, use-after-free in Cast UI, use after free in Omnibox, out of bounds read in ANGLE, use after free in Views, use-after-free in WebShare, type confusion in Blink Layout, use-after-free in Media, out of bounds memory access in Mojo, use-after-free in MediaStream, insufficient policy enforcement in Installer, heap buffer overflow in Cast UI, inappropriate implementation in HTML parser, inappropriate implementation in full screen mode, inappropriate implementation in Permissions, use-after-free in Browser Switcher, data leak in Canvas, inappropriate implementation in Autofill, use-after-free in Chrome OS Shell and out of bounds memory access in WebXR.”
An attacker can take advantage of these flaws by sending a specially crafted request. An attacker could compromise the targeted system if these vulnerabilities are exploited.
Microsoft Edge users should update to the current version to avoid being exploited, according to the CERT-In. The latest Security Updates for the Chromium project are included in version 99.0.1150.39, which was released by Microsoft last week. The additional fixes for several bugs and performance issues are addressed in this release.
Edge is currently installed on 9.54 percent of desktops throughout the world, trailing only Apple’s Safari, which has a market share of 9.84 percent, according to StatCounter.
According to the report, Google Chrome continues to have the largest market share, with 65.38 percent of users. Since the debut of the new Windows OS, Edge has experienced substantial growth.
