Between 2015-16 and 2021-22, the Indian government’s allocation of funds for boosting cybersecurity increased by 389%
Even as a national strategy on the sensitive subject of cybersecurity is being developed, the government’s allocation of funding for boosting cybersecurity increased by 389% between 2015-16 and 2021-22.
During the current financial year (ending June 2021), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology spent ₹ 416 crore on boosting cybersecurity measures across the country, which is 389% more than the ₹ 85 crore it spent in 2015-16 for the same purpose.
At the same time, the ₹ 416 crore spent on boosting cybersecurity so far in 2021-22 is a 34% increase over the ₹ 310 crore spent in 2020-21.
According to sources, the government’s increased funding for cybersecurity measures underlined the government’s commitment to the strategic issue.
In 2016-17, there was a modest decrease in money allocated to improve cybersecurity, with just ₹ 70 crore allocated compared to ₹ 85 crore released in 2015-16. However, in 2017-18, there was a 100% increase in funding allotment, with ₹ 140 crore released. According to official data, the allotment for cybersecurity has been in the three digits since then.
