Singapore has Launched a Cybersecurity Certification Scheme

by CISOCONNECT Bureau

Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency (CSA) has introduced a new cyber security certification scheme to recognise organisations that follow best practises in cyber security.

The scheme, which consists of two cyber security marks, Cyber Essentials and Cyber Trust, was developed in consultation with certification practitioners, technology providers, and trade associations, and taking into consideration the organisational profiles and operational needs of Singaporean businesses.

Cyber Essentials is aimed at assisting small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with limited cyber security resources to implement cyber security measures such as data backups, access controls, and incident response to protect their systems.

Larger organizations will benefit from Cyber Trust’s risk-based approach, which will help them understand their risk profiles and identify relevant cyber security preparedness areas required to mitigate security risks.

The security certification scheme is timely, according to David Koh, CEO of CSA, and organisations may be required to demonstrate their cyber security to provide more assurance to their customers. David said “Having the certification reflects the company’s commitment to ensure that they remain cyber secure, giving them an edge over their competitors,”

The CSA has developed a toolkit for IT teams that includes resources such as templates for tracking information assets, as well as products or services from an initial ecosystem of partners, to help organisations in meeting the requirements of the security marks.
