New Safety Feature for Google Doc Users Rolled Out by Google

by CISOCONNECT Bureau

Every time a user is mentioned in a comment in a Google Docs document, Google sends them an email notification. Both the comment and the commenter’s name are included in the email. Workspace is getting a new feature from Google. In addition to the comment and the commenter’s name, the email message will also include the commenter’s email address. The new feature, according to Google, is designed to give users more confidence that they are receiving a legit notification rather than a spam or phishing attempt from a malicious actor.

All Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, will be able to use the feature. Users with personal Google accounts will also be able to use this feature. Google has started to roll out this feature to users from March 3. The roll out is likely to take up to 15 days to complete.

There is also no administrative control for the feature. All the users will be able use this feature by default.
