Check Point Software Technologies announced on Monday that it has acquired Avanan, a U.S.-Israeli cyber security firm that specialises in protecting email, which is where the majority of cyber attacks originate.
Based in Israel, Check Point did not provide details of financial terms.
Dorit Dor, Check Point’s Chief Product Officer, said “More and more businesses are moving to cloud-email platforms and with email becoming a major channel to launch devastating cyber-attacks, this acquisition represents a huge potential,”
According to Check Point, Avanan was formed in 2015 and its technology filters malicious emails before they reach a user’s mailbox. It serves over 5,000 customers and protects over 2.5 million email accounts.
