Despite Rising Cyberattacks, Indian Govt has Trained Four Thousand Cybersecurity Officials

The discovery of key security vulnerabilities in many government servers, which could have provided hackers access to sensitive networks, highlights the importance of securing the India’s digital infrastructure.

Officials familiar with cybersecurity told Hindustan Times that the Ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) has virtually trained over four thousand government officials in cyber security in the last 3 months, in response to rising cyber attacks.

The cybersecurity course, which began in December of last year, is divided into two parts: a one-day basic training to prevent cyber breaches and digital sanitization, and a 5 day course on the intense technical aspects of the same. Both training programmes are implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Hyderabad.

Several instances of government domain email addresses being used to conduct cyber attacks were reported by Hindustan Times last month. The discovery of key security vulnerabilities in many government servers, which could have provided attackers access to sensitive networks, highlights the importance of securing the country’s digital infrastructure.
