G DATA announced the release of SECURE CHAT for Android, a multiple-encrypted SMS and chat communication application for users looking to keep their text-based communications private.
According to G DATA, the application was designed to protect the privacy of users against data leaks and cyber eavesdropping, and can also be used to share files securely through the use of the Axolotl protocol.
Available as a free download from Google Play, SECURE CHAT helps secure all file exchanges, including photos, videos and other media,. The included Axolotl protocol, which features an elliptic curve cryptography process, is considered to be almost impossible to hack, and allows end-to-end encryption for both individual and group chats.
Moreover, the application allows user to retain the rights to their images and texts and prevents third party re-use, while including a Snapchat-like feature which allows senders to specify when the shared messages and files should be deleted, even from the recipient’s device, courtesy of a self-destruct timer.
The chat program also allows users to back up their local chat history on an SD card, as well as to encrypt the local chat history using a password.
G DATA Internet Security for Android users can take advantage of premium features like phishing filter for URLs in chat messages, filter for incoming and outgoing messages and SMS, and the option to hide SMS messages from specific contacts, the company said.
“In today’s world, the privacy of the individual as well as businesses is in constant peril with the growing ability of hackers to tap into and steal data,” said Andy Hayter, security evangelist, G DATA. “We created the SECURE CHAT app with the strongest encryption protocol possible, to offer users the ability to easily communicate with each other without having to worry about the security of their conversations and data.”
