US President Biden Issues a Warning to Russian President Putin Regarding Ransomware Attack

According to the White House, US President Biden spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday about the ongoing ransomware attacks by Russian cybercriminals that have targeted US and other countries across the world.

President Joe Biden of the United States has warned Russia of the repercussions of its ransomware attacks, emphasising the need for Moscow to take action against the ransomware groups.

The White House said in a readout of the phone call that Biden spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday about the ongoing ransomware attacks by Russian cybercriminals that have impacted the US and other countries across the world.

When asked if the ransomware attacks will have consequences, Biden told reporters at the White House hours after his call with Putin on this issue. Biden said that — I made it very clear to him that the United States expects, when a ransomware operation is coming from his soil, even though it’s not sponsored by the state, we expect them to act if we give them enough information to act on who that is

During the phone discussion, the White House said that Biden stressed the need for Russia taking steps to disrupt ransomware groups operating in Russia, and emphasised his commitment to continuous engagement on the broader threat posed by ransomware.
