Lt Gen Rajesh Pant, the Prime Minister’s Office’s National Cybersecurity Coordinator, said at an event that the government plans to present a new cybersecurity strategy this year.

At an event organised by the Public Affairs Forum of India (PAFI), the coordinator emphasised that the strategy would address the entire ecosystem of cyberspace in India holistically.

He stated “The goal of this plan is to create a cyberspace that is safe, secure, resilient, dynamic, and trusted,”

The new strategy would serve as a roadmap for addressing all aspects, including governance, data as a national resource, indigenous capability development, and cyber audit, to name a few.

He noted that the new strategy will provide over 80-odd deliverables.

‘Cyber Security in the New Normal’ was the theme of the PAFI Dialogue.

Pant added “Pandemic has shot up the cyber-crimes in India by 500 per cent and India is one of the top 3 attacked countries in the world as far as cyber-attacks are concerned,”

The proliferation of new technologies such as drones and IoT devices is posing new threats.

The government has taken a number of steps to maintain a safe, secure, and trusted cyberspace.

He said “Cybercrimes are increasing. Attribution is the difficult part and now (cybercriminals) have started taking advantage of the dark web. Pandemic gave the perfect storm to the cybercriminals,”
