According to a latest report from Opswat, only 8 percent of firms using web apps for uploading files have proper cybersecurity protocols in place to protect against malicious attacks. Despite this, almost all of them i.e. 99 percent are concerned about cyber threats.
In response to pressures and customer demands, organizations have rushed to digitally transform their businesses, resulting in widespread adoption of cloud services and collaboration and sharing platforms. Security for their web applications that supports file uploads and transfers, on the other hand, has fallen behind, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic.
While most of them are aware of the importance of securing file uploads, just 8 percent use cybersecurity best practises. Concerningly, 32 percent of firms do not scan all file uploads for detecting malicious files, and the vast majority do not sanitize file uploads with Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR) to prevent unknown malware and zero-day attacks.
Opswat conducted online application security study on file uploads, examining trends and gaps in cybersecurity safeguards. File upload gateways increase and present new attack surfaces, while online apps improve efficiency and user experience. Moreover, despite the heightened awareness about cyber assaults and third-party risk, many firms are not adequately safeguarded.
Independent IT security professionals directly responsible for web applications accepting at least 500 file uploads per day for organizations with at least 250 employees were among the 302 global survey participants. Overall IT security, current file upload environments, and security of external file uploads were all covered in the survey.
