Health Data from Apple Watch ‘Accessed’ by Lapsus$ Hackers

by CISOCONNECT Bureau

The Lapsus$ hacking group claimed to have stolen 70GB of files from various of worldwide businesses, including Globant, an IT and software development company with some of the world’s largest enterprises as clients.

Screenshots of the leaked data, originally published by Lapsus$, purported to reveal folders containing the names of a number of major companies, including US cable network C-Span and French bank BNP Paribas and other companies.

According to The Verge, Facebook and Apple were also on the list, with the latter linked to in a folder dubbed ‘apple-health-app.’

Globant, acknowledging the hack, said in a statement, “We have recently detected that a limited section of our company’s code repository has been subject to unauthorized access. We have activated our security protocols and are conducting an exhaustive investigation,”

It added “According to our current analysis, the information that was accessed was limited to certain source code and project-related documentation for a very limited number of clients. To date, we have not found any evidence that other areas of our infrastructure systems or those of our clients were affected,”

“We are officially back from a vacation,” Lapsus$ said on Telegram, sharing a torrent link to the allegedly stolen data with a note. If confirmed, the leak would indicate a swift return to action following the arrest of seven suspected Lapsus$ members by British police less than a week ago, according to the report.

The arrests, which were first reported by BBC News on March 24, came after a year-long investigation by London Police into the gang’s alleged ringleader, who is believed to be a teenager living with his parents in Oxford.
