Hackers Breach Data of 79,400 Customers of Singaporean Communications Services Provider

According to MyRepublic, which operates in the Asia-Pacific region with operations in Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, the “unauthorised data access” incident was discovered on August 29 and the relevant authorities were notified of the breach.

Hackers accessed the personal data of 79,400 subscribers of a local mobile operator and internet service provider in Singapore on Friday, the latest incident in a succession of cyber attacks in recent months.

According to MyRepublic, which operates in the Asia-Pacific region with operations in Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, the “unauthorised data access” incident was discovered on August 29 and the relevant authorities were notified of the breach.

Identity verification documents relating to customer’s applications for mobile services were stolen, including scanned copies of utility bills with foreigners’ residential addresses and locals’ National Registration Identity Cards, according to the report.

Names and mobile numbers of customers who ported an existing mobile service were also accessed.

There is currently no indication that any personal data, like as account or payment information, was impacted, according to MyRepublic.
