According to an Israeli cyber-crime specialist, Domino’s India customer data, including over 1 million credit card numbers, is for sale on the dark web.
The well-known pizza joint Domino’s India appears to have been the target of a cyber attack. According to Alon Gal, co-founder of an Israeli cybercrime intelligence firm, the hackers have accessed Domino’s India’s 13TB of internal data, which includes the crucial information of over 250 employees from various departments such as IT, Legal, Finance, Marketing, and Operations.
The hackers claim to have obtained all customer information as well as 18 crore order data, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, delivery addresses, and payment information, including over 10 lakh credit card numbers used to make purchases on the Domino’s India app.
Furthermore, the hackers want to sell all of the information to a single buyer. The hackers are after $550,000 (roughly Rs 4 crores) for the entire database, according to Alon Gal. The hackers also intend to create a search portal that will enable them to query the data.
The transaction appears to be taking place on the dark web, most likely on a website used by cyber scammers. For the time being, Domino’s India has not confirmed or denied that customer data has been hacked or leaked from its servers.
It’s particularly concerning because India has recently been the target of many large-scale cyber-attacks. According to data from the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), cyber attacks on India increased by nearly 300 percent last year during the Covid-19 pandemic, rising to 11,58,208 in 2020 from 3,94,499 in 2019.
