In a LinkedIn post, Charlie Bell, who will begin as an executive vice president at Microsoft, stated that his responsibilities will include dealing with digital fraud, ransomware attacks, and with public exposure of private data.

Former Amazon.com Inc cloud executive Charlie Bell stated that he has joined Microsoft Corp to lead cybersecurity operations in a newly created role.

In a LinkedIn post, Bell, who will begin as an executive vice president, stated that his responsibilities will include dealing with digital fraud, ransomware attacks, and with public exposure of private data.

Bell’s hiring comes at a time when Microsoft has been heavily criticised for security shortcomings.

According to Bloomberg News, Bell, who long reported to former Amazon Web Services chief Andy Jassy and managed the engineering teams working on AWS’s key software services, will now report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Bell started his career as a creator of mini-computer software used in engineering of space shuttle payload mixes. After his startup was acquired by Amazon in 1998, he joined the company.

In a LinkedIn post (https://bit.ly/3nCOsVU), Bell wrote “I’m thrilled to join Microsoft to take on one of the greatest challenges of our time, leading a newly formed engineering organization: Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management,”

Bell will begin his new role officially once “a resolution is reached with his former employer,” according to Bloomberg, citing an email from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
