IBM announced today that Kyndryl would be the name of the new, independent company formed after the separation of its Managed Infrastructure Services business, which is expected to take place by the end of 2021.
Commenting on the development, Martin Schroeter, Chief Executive Officer of Kyndryl, said “Kyndryl evokes the spirit of true partnership and growth,”.
He added “Customers around the world will come to know Kyndryl as a brand that runs the vital systems at the heart of progress, and an independent company with the best global talent in the industry.”
Kyndryl also revealed that its headquarters will be in New York City. Schroeter said “The decision to base our corporate team in one of the world’s most vibrant and global urban centers underscores our commitment to the economic health of cities,”
Kyndryl is a modern take on two terms that are at the heart of the new company’s brand and mission. The term “Kyn” is derived from the word “kinship,” and it refers to the idea that long-term relationships with individuals, such as workers, clients, and partners, are at the heart of the strategy. The name “Dryl” is derived from the word “tendril,” which connotes new development and the belief that the company is always working to advance human advancement in collaboration with consumers and partners.
