Despite the fact that thousands of people lost their employment across the world as a result of the pandemic, a recent study estimates that there are about 3.1 million cybersecurity job openings worldwide, with the majority of them in the APAC region.
According to a study by skilled recruitment services company Michael Page India, cybercrime in Asia Pacific increased by 600% as a result of the global pandemic’s effects.
The study report, titled “The Humans of Cybersecurity,” claims that between February and May 2020, 19 million ransomware and phishing attacks were detected in Asia, with many of them coronavirus-related.
While it is clear that cybersecurity is becoming a greater concern for companies around the world, what is more concerning is the fact that the majority of businesses lack sufficient cybersecurity procedures, rendering them particularly vulnerable to attacks.
According to the study, there is a 43% talent shortage in the cybersecurity sector, with skills in application development security, cloud security risk management, threat intelligence, data privacy, and security being the most in demand.
According to the study, Asia Pacific’s cybersecurity sector, which was estimated at $30.45 billion in 2019, is now projected to rise at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 18.3 percent from 2020 to 2025.
